33-year-old Sarah was kidnapped, raped and murdered in South London on 3 March 2021, as she was walking home. Metropolitan Police Officer, Wayne Couzens, was found guilty of the crimes and given a whole-life sentence in prison. An inquiry was launched into how he was able to work as a police officer despite concerns about his previous behaviour towards women. Sarah's death reignited a deep-rooted anger in many women across the world, who fear for their own safety in public and demand an end to male violence. In the past year, across the UK and Ireland, many more women continue to be attacked and murdered. A statement from the Met to mark the one-year-anniversary said: "Our thoughts are with Sarah Everard’s family and loved ones.
