A snow-ice warning has been issued for all of Ireland

Met Éireann have issued a snow-ice warning for all of Ireland.

The status yellow warning was issued at 10am on December 14. It will be in place from 11am on December 14 until 11am on December 15. A spokesperson for Met Éireann forecast wintry showers of hail, sleet and snow with localised accumulations - particularly on high ground, icy stretches on roads and footpaths. Meanwhile, a status yellow wind warning will remain in place for Donegal. The warning, which was issued at 1pm on Friday, began at 5pm on December 13. It will stay in place until 5pm on December 14. A Met Éireann spokesperson said:

"Strong westerly winds Friday night and for a time Saturday. Mean speeds 50 to 65 km/h gusting to 90 to 110 km/h with a risk of stronger winds at the coasts."

Looking towards the weather for the rest of the weekend, Met Éireann are predicting a cold and blustery Saturday with sunny spells and scattered showers, frequent this morning in the Northwest. Some of the showers will have a wintry mix of hail, sleet and snow, especially on high ground with some thunder. During the afternoon and evening, scattered outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow will move Northwards over the country. Sunday will be another cold with sunny spells, with wintry showers in the Northwest will die out through the morning. Further showers will develop in the South and West during the day becoming more widespread in the evening with some hail, sleet and snow especially for high ground, and the ongoing risk of thunder. Highest afternoon temperatures will range 2C to 4C degrees inland over the northern half of the country, but 5C to 8C degrees further south and near coasts.
