The May Bank Holiday will see banks and post offices close on Monday, May 6th, resulting in early payments for social welfare recipients.
Anyone in lieu of a social welfare payment, including Child Benefit, on May 6th will see it land into their accounts either on Friday, May 3rd, or on Saturday, May 4th.
This early payment will be made to ensure that recipients do not receive a late payment as a result of the bank closures.
The Child Benefit payment is paid on the first Tuesday of every month. However, if the usual payday falls after a Bank Holiday, recipients are normally paid early.
These changes come as the Government began deliberations on measures for the upcoming 2025 Budget.
While a date has not been set for the Budget announcement, Finance Minister Michael McGrath has shared some insights into what the public can expect.
For one, the average worker could see a boost of around €1,200 and a personal tax package worth approximately €1,200 — It’s worth noting that this proposed package is separate from packages for families, farmers, and businesses.
Additionally, those who qualify for Child Benefit, who receive a payment of €140 every month, will get an extra €10 and those in receipt of the State Pension who currently receive approximately €277 per week, will receive an extra €12.
Tánaiste Micheál Martin has also expressed his wishes to see an additional round of winter energy credits for the public.
This comes following Budget 2024’s three credits each worth €150 for every household in Ireland between December and March.
