Supervalu warns customers about a WhatsApp scam

Don't get caught out.

Supervalu has issued a warning to customers about a scam that is doing the rounds on the popular messaging app WhatsApp. People are receiving messages, claiming to be from the supermarket, offering vouchers in exchange for personal details and questions. Supervalu has said the following on the matter:

"We have received reports from members of the public of communications, including WhatsApp messages, offering SuperValu vouchers by clicking on a link/asking to enter personal information/ answer questions or sharing the post. These are NOT issued, endorsed or promoted by SuperValu. Please do NOT share any personal info and do not interact."

Many customers have said that when they opened the link and filled out their information, their balance was affected with €5 being deducted every time they topped up. The supermarket has suggested that if you have opened the link, that you contact the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg). If you ever receive messages of that nature and are unsure about their legitimacy, it's always best to avoid clicking any links or giving any personal information.
