Temperatures set to drop as low as -2C in some parts of the country tonight

Grim enough.

We weren't too sure what the expect weather-wise for the Bank Holiday weekend, especially since the temperatures seem to have been a bit all over the place lately. But now that the long weekend is finally here, the forecast is looking like a bit of a mixed bag - although, it's not getting off to the best start as the temperatures are set to drop to -2C tonight. Yes, you read that correctly. Today [May 4] is going to be a largely dry day with sunny spells, with temperatures reaching highs of 9C in the north to 14C in the southwest. And while it will be dry this evening, with "clear spells and light variable breezes", the temperatures are going to drop really, really far. As in, they're going to be reaching as low as -2C in some areas of the country tonight. Looking towards the rest of the weekend, a Met Éireann forecaster said:

"[Sunday will be] dry and bright with sunny spells in most areas, however cloudier at times in Ulster with the chance of an isolated shower. "Highest temperatures will range from 9C in the north to 15C in the southwest, but under any prolonged spells of sunshine temperatures perhaps a degree higher in the southwest. "Sunday night will be mainly dry. However, a little light rain or drizzle is likely in northern areas. Lowest temperatures of 1C to 4C."

As for Monday, it will be "mainly dry with good sunny spells in the south and west." They added:

"It will be somewhat cloudier in the east and north and there'll be a little patchy rain or drizzle in parts of Ulster and possibly north Leinster. "Highest temperatures of 9C to 12C with light variable breezes."
