The 32nd Dáil is convening today for the first time, and while there will be a vote on nominations for Taoiseach, nobody is expected to be elected today.
RTÉ Newsreport there will also be a Ceann Comhairle elected by secret ballot, and five TDs are contesting for this spot.
Fine Gael's Andrew Doyle and Bernard Durkan, Fianna Fail's Seán Ó Fearghaíl, Sinn Féin's Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin and Independent Maureen O'Sullivan.
Fine Gael will nominate Enda Kenny, Fianna Fáil will propose Micheál Martin and Sinn Féin are to nominate Gerry Adams.
It's expected that the Dáíl will be adjourned to allow for further negotiations regarding forming a government.
This Dáil has the highest number of female TDs in the history of the state.
