This top BBC presenter is earning nearly five times more than his female counterpart

Not one woman made this year's list.

One year after they received a lot of criticism for their list of top earners, the BBC has released this year’s findings and, unfortunately, not much has changed. Topping last year’s list was Chris Evans who took home between £2.2million and £2.25million in 2016/2017 in comparison to BBC’s highest-paid woman, Claudia Winkleman, who earned nearly £2million less receiving between £450,000 and £499,999 during the same time period. And while the highest paid male is earning considerably less this year, the top-earning female has also taken a pay cut. Topping this year’s list is Match Of The Day host, Gary Lineker who earned himself between £1.75million and £1.76million in 2017/2018. Followed closely by last year’s top earner, Chris Evans, who took home £1.66million and £1.67milion in the last year, and Graham Norton who earned between £600,000 and £609,999, and that's without taking his chat show earnings into account. Claudia Winkleman is holding onto her top spot as the highest paid female in the BBC. However, still earning nearly £1.4million less than her male counterpart, Claudia also saw her earnings drop this year, taking home between £370,000 and £379,999. This is the second year in a row that the BBC has decided to publish the salaries of its top-earning presenters, with last year’s publication resulting in outcries for more gender and ethnic equality. Last year’s list saw just three women make the top 10, however, this year, not one woman made an appearance. Overall, however, the BBC’s figures show that they have reduced the gender pay gap by nearly a fifth. Defending the breakdown of wages, BBC says the list does not reflect changes to wages made after April of this year and that there have been positive changes. Speaking of this year’s review, director general Tony Hall said:

“I’ve made it absolutely clear that it’s not good enough and I want to get to 50/50, and that will mean changes in the range of what people are paid right across [the organisation]. “We are making progress and you must understand that. We’re trying to get a balanced range of men and women and their pay right across the organisation. “I am concentrating on what is a huge change, which is going from 25 percent of women to 40 percent of women being in the top, over £150,000 pay. These things take time.”
