Two women have died at popular Dublin coasts within 24 hours

The body of the second woman was discovered this morning.

In a statement to JOE, Gardaí confirmed that they attended the scene after a woman's body was discovered in the water at north Dublin area Clontarf on Tuesday (8 October) at around 7am.

"The woman’s body has since been removed from the scene," a Garda spokesperson added.

"Enquiries are ongoing. No further information is available at this time."

Portmarnock

In a separate incident, another woman was also pronounced dead after being found unresponsive in the water off the coast of the popular north Dublin beach Portmarnock Strand.

Gardaí say they were alerted to this incident on Monday afternoon (7 October).

According to multiple reports, an alarm was raised after the woman was spotted in difficulty while swimming.

A Garda spokesperson says the woman - aged in her 60s - was found unresponsive in the water at the Portmarnock beach by the Irish Coast Guard shortly after 3pm.

"She was taken to Beaumont Hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased," the spokesperson added.

"Gardaí were notified and the Coroner has since been informed. A post-mortem examination will be arranged."

Foul play is not suspected in this incident.
