UCD students speak out about racism they suffered in Dublin bar

The student and his friend were reportedly told "no black people" allowed.

A group of UCD students were going for a drink when upon attempting entry of a pub in Temple Bar, the pair were told "no black people allowed". According to the Irish Mirror, South African man Anathi Phela, a Civil Law Masters student in UCD was left confused when he and a group of pals including fellow Masters student Ezile Mhlambiso were denied entry to an unnamed Dublin bar. Speaking to RTÉ's Liveline, Ezile told of her horror at the racist incident, speaking of how onlookers did nothing to stop the bouncer:

"No one intervened. No one said anything. “It was sad, I felt really let down. I thought someone would eventually get up and say something, but no one stood up, they just watched us. It was so humiliating.”

The students have been living in Ireland to carry out their studies and both were shocked at the blatant racism they suffered. Listeners were shocked at the student's recollection of events on the radio show and urged people to name and shame the bar:

The students reported their incident to the Gardaí but were told nothing would come of the matter. Listen to the full interview below.
