In April, the bank launched an "urgent investigation" after some customers found that funds - including salaries - had disappeared from their current accounts. This left many without the funds to pay for impending direct debits or with their accounts in the negatives. Social media users said a the time that they had also had their credit and debit cards declined while making purchases. Ulster Bank offered customers who were affected up to €500 in emergency cash and said that the issue was due to a "human error".
