Peter Andre has hit back at Rebekah Vardy after comments she made about him were mentioned on the first day of the 'Wagatha Christie' trial. Vardy is suing Coleen Rooney for libel after Rooney publicly accused her of leaking stories to The Sun in October 2019, allegations Vardy denies. The trial got underway on Tuesday (May 10) at London's High Court and much of the day's proceedings were dominated by comments Vardy made about Peter Andre in a 2004 interview with the News of the World. Vardy took to the stand to admit she regretted making comments in the interview in which she described Andre's "manhood" as a "miniature chipolata." She claims she was coerced into giving the interview to the tabloid by her ex-husband. Andre has now spoken out about the comments, taking to Instagram to make his thoughts known. He wrote: “Do you know how hard it is to keep biting my lip on situations? But the way I look at it, most people saw in the jungle how an acorn turned into an oak so I think I’m OK.” He added: “At least she has now admitted it wasn’t true. And was forced to say it.” Vardy was being cross-examined by Rooney's lawyer David Sherborne when he asked her about the 2004 interview with the News of the World, in which she went into detail about a rumoured sexual encounter with the singer. Rooney's lawyer then showed her the article and read out the headline "Peter’s hung like a small chipolata, shaved, slobbery, lasts five minutes,” the Mirror reports. Sherborne went on to read out excerpts from the piece, including lines such as "he had the smallest trouser equipment I’ve ever seen” and managed “just five minutes of sex with Rebekah”. Sherborne argued that at the time of the interview the News of the World had been the highest-circulating newspaper in the country, with a readership of around four million people. He asked Vardy whether giving the interview had been "respectful" of Andre's "right not to share this information." She replied: “I was forced into a situation by my ex-husband to do this and it is something that I deeply regret. It is not nice to read and I understand why this is being used – to me, this is mudslinging, and I was also threatened with mudslinging by Mrs Rooney’s team.” She admitted that she had not asked Andre for his permission or warned him that the story was going to happen. Sherborne asked her: “Did you feel particularly strongly about the size of his manhood that it should be made public?” Vardy said it was something she had been "forced to say." The trial continues on Wednesday and is expected to last seven days.
