A new weather warning has been issued for 18 counties

A new weather warning has been issued for 18 counties - and it sounds pretty grim. The yellow rainfall warning was issued for Munster and Leinster, and will come into effect at 3pm on Tuesday. It will remain in place until 6am on Wednesday morning, with the southern and eastern countries forecast to be affected the most. The Met Éireann forecaster said:

"A spell of heavy rain will move up from the south Tuesday afternoon, giving 25 to 35 mm of rain. The larger totals are likely to be over southern and eastern counties."

As for the rest of the forecast fo the day, Met Éireann have said the temperatures will reach highs of 8C to 11C during the day, before dropping as low as 2C in some parts of the country tonight. The rain will spread northwards to most areas tonight, with it being heaviest in southern and eastern coastal counties - which may lead to spot flooding. Wednesday is forecast to start off cloudy, with some residual patches of light rain and drizzle. However, clearer, brighter intervals with showers will extend from the west through the course of the morning and afternoon. Top temperatures will be between 5C to 7C  in Ulster, but 7C to 10C elsewhere. There will be clear spells and scattered showers on Wednesday night, with a risk of hail and thunder. Temperatures will hit lows of 1C to 4C with some frost in places. Met Éireann have forecast a "cool, bright and breezy" start to Thursday, with sunny spells and passing showers. Temperatures of 7C to 10C are expected, but they may be a little lower in some northern parts. It will be cold and frosty overnight with lows of -2C to +3C. Many areas dry, but a few showers will affect western and northern coasts. Wind falling light to moderate and backing southwesterly.
