Where The Crawdads Sing author wanted for questioning over real life murder

Where The Crawdads Sing has just dropped in cinemas across the globe, and along with its newfound popularity, the author of the original novel has come into question. The zoologist and conservationist garnered over 4.5 million in sales in the first 18 months of the novel being released, and it has since been picked up by Reese Witherspoon and produced into a film. Delia Owens' novel tells the story of a coming-of-age tale that finds itself enthralled in a murder mystery. Following the success of the book and the film alike, police are now looking for the author to come forward for questioning regarding a death in Africa 25 years ago. An article from an issue of the New Yorker in 2010 has resurfaced entitled "Did American conservationists in Africa go too far?", and many are now questioning if Owens may have used inspiration from the real life events to contribute to her novel. The article describes the work that Owens and her former husband Mark did in Botswana and Zambia, with writer Jeffery Goldberg saying in the piece: "The Owenses supplied clinics, held workshops in Aids prevention, and trained traditional birth attendants." The controversial part comes when he discusses their involvement with the campaign against the illegal killing of endangered animals. A documentary from 1995 on ABC shows the former couple and their son Christopher's alleged involvement in the death of an alleged poacher. The Irish Times has reported that Goldberg had revised his 2010 article and found that "Mark, Delia, and Christopher Owens are still wanted for questioning related to the killing of the alleged poacher, as well as other possible criminal activities in North Luangwa." Owens has denied any involvement in the death of the poacher, saying at the time: "We don’t know anything about it. "The only thing Mark ever did was throw firecrackers out of his plane, but just to scare poachers, not to hurt anyone."
