Abercrombie and Fitch say there are ‘no plans’ to close Dublin store

Abercrombie & Fitch has said that there are "no plans" to close its Dublin store this summer.

The popular retailer opened its doors on College Green in the capital in 2012, with shoppers constantly flocking to the city centre store. Initial reports said that the retailer had not renewed its lease - which was said to be up during the summer months - and would be closing down its store this year. But a spokesperson for the company confirmed to Her that there were no plans to close the store this summer. They said:

"While we typically don’t comment on rumors, there is no truth to this rumor. "The lease does not end in May, and there are no plans to close the store this summer."

It comes as another popular clothing store in the capital's city centre is readying to shut down. Forever 21 was first rumoured to be closing its doors at the Jervis Shopping Centre late last year. The American retailer first opened in 2010, promising as many as 250 jobs. But the news was ultimately confirmed last month, with the brand saying the move was "part of an overall strategic review of the group's operations in Ireland." The Irish Independent reports that accounts filed for Forever 21 Fashion Ireland Ltd noted:

"As part of an overall strategic review of the group's operations in Ireland, a decision has been taken by the board, subsequent to the year end, to cease operations and close its only store operating in Ireland."

The accounts are said to also show that the company has set aside almost €11 million related to planned redundancy and lease exit costs for the Dublin store.
