“Sustainability is very important to BAFTA, and we’re doing more than ever before,” the academy said in a statement prior to the event. “The goal is that the EE British Academy Film Awards 2020 will be carbon neutral, working towards having a net positive impact on the environment.”
Also included in the press release was information on the guide sent to guests on how they should dress.
Encouraging them to rent, borrow or wear something they already own, guests were also offered a list of companies they could use to get dresses from.
Leading the sustainable fashion last night was Kate Middleton in a 2012 Alexander McQueen dress, Saoirse Ronan in a Gucci dress upcycled from discarded satin and Joaquin Phoenix in a suit he has pledged to wear for all awards shows this season.
In terms of winners last night, 1917 scooped the award for Best Film, Renée Zellweger took home the title of Best Actress for her role in Judy, while Joaquin Phoenix won Best Actor for his role as The Joker in Joker.
