Irish designer Sorcha O’Raghallaigh honoured to create custom look for Zara Larsson at VMAs

Sorcha O'Raghallaigh is one to watch in the fashion world

It's the place where Lady Gaga wore her iconic meat dress, where Britney performed with a yellow boa constrictor, and the Spice Girls put their stamp on red carpet style in 1997.

The VMAs red carpet has always been known for being fun and outrageous. However, it's also known for encouraging celebrities to stray away from classic red carpet looks.

This year's red carpet was no different, with Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter, and Doja Cat reminding us why the VMAs have been at the centre of standout fashion moments for years.

One of our favourites from this year's awards was Zara Larsson, who wore a custom design by an Irish designer.

Irish designer Sorcha O'Raghallaigh created a custom look for the singer with her stylist, Caterina Ospina.

The custom jewelled hibiscus look was one of the standout looks on the night.

Speaking to Her.ie about dressing Zara for such a prestigious event, Sorcha said:

"It was an honour to design and create a custom look for Zara for such an iconic event.

"I loved the whole process because I worked really closely with Zara’s stylist, Caterina Ospina."

"We created something unique that captured the theme of hibiscus for Zara!" the designer shared following Sunday's VMAs.

Sorcha O'Raghallaigh is an Irish designer celebrated for her unique, bespoke creations.

Sorcha has already made strides in the fashion world with Beyoncé, Madonna and Lady Gaga wearing her designs.

The Offaly-born designer is "deeply invested in the quality, history and passing on of a handmade skill from one person to another."

Sorcha specialised in fashion design at the internationally renowned Central Saint Martins.

She also interned at John Galliano in Paris, as well as Diane Von Furstenberg in New York. Following her internships, Sorcha O'Raghallaigh graduated in 2010 to critical acclaim.

Beyoncé wore her designs on the cover of Interview Germany. Sorcha's designs have also been featured in British Vogue, W, Dazed, and Vogue.

Some of the designer's work can take up to three months to create, as it is made by hand. Sorcha's determination to stay true to her craft by creating one-of-a-kind designs is welcome in a world obsessed with fast fashion.
