According to Vogue, the theme was all about "gilded glamour, white tie." If you haven't heard of this dress code before, white tie is a step up from black tie. It is the most formal dress code there is, so we can only assume all the stops will be rolled out.
Appearing gradually on the red carpet, celebrities took on the theme and some really knew what to do when it came down to it.
Kicking it off, co-chairs Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds stepped out as Met Gala royalty, Blake paid homage to New York City, with an Empire State Building inspired copper dress which transformed into a Statue of Liberty gown.
As the carpet went on, more and more famous faces appeared. From all five Kardashian-Jenner sisters for the first time ever to the cast of Euphoria, everyone was out in force.
While usual showstoppers Rihanna and Zendaya didn't make an appearance this year, we had plenty of exciting and fresh looks to keep us on our toes.
Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan clearly took inspiration from the Netflix series for her look, while Kim Kardashian went another direction by wearing Marilyn Monroe's iconic dress she wore while singing Happy Birthday Mr. President to JFK.
One of the most memorable looks and moments was when Lizzo brought along a gold flute to play as she walked up the steps.
Hard to top last year's look, Billie Eilish did just that and got the theme spot on, but we wouldn't expect anything less.
Hailey Bieber stepped out in Yves Saint Laurent, with a satin while gown and feathered matching cape and we instantly need to try it on at one point in our lives.
Caps seemed to be big on the carpet this year, with both Kylie Jenner and Nicki Minaj opting to wear one. While they may not have existed at the time of the guilded age, Nicki said she wouldn't wear her dress unless she had the hat and Kylie's was an ode to the late Off White creative director Virgil Abloh.
Until Monday, Met Gala.
