That's why we were delighted to hear the Irish language filters are on the way.
Not only could we be getting filters for places like Baile Atha Cliath, Luimneach and Gaillimh but you could be the one to design it.
Conradh na Gaeilge have launched a competition called Gaelsnap, to create Snapchat Geofilters in Irish for every county in Ireland. All you have to do is create a filter using a county’s placename as Gaeilge and the best filters will be chosen to represent each county.
Conradh na Gaeilge's Director of Development, Aodhán Ó Deá, explained that with the popularity of the app in Ireland it seemed only right to incorporate the language with it.
“We here in Conradh na Gaeilge are extremely excited to launch this initiative after first suggesting the idea to Snapchat only a few weeks ago.
It is clear that Irish people love using Snapchat - per capita we use it more than any other country - so why not celebrate our placenames as Gaeilge while taking a selfie!”
If you or one of your friends crafty and love Irish, why not send in your own design.
Anybody can enter by emailing their artwork to [email protected] before Friday, 19 August 2016. Further guidelines can be found at HERE or even snap Conradh na Gaeilge at CnaGaeilge if you have any questions.
Conradh na Gaeilge will announce the winning filters in September as part of the launch for its new BÚA campaign. BÚA stands for Bainim Úsáid Aisti and promotes ways to speak Irish more frequently in different social settings.
Orlaith Nic Ghearailt, Seachtain na Gaeilge & Awareness Campaigns Assistant says:
“We want people to don their best artistic hats and design some amazing Snapchat Geofilters as Gaeilge for Conradh na Gaeilge’s Gaelsnap competition. Try to make your Geofilter stand out by including your own original artwork alongside the county name in Irish and whatever you feel makes your county special.”
Even if you don't plan on designing your own, we can wait to get these on our phones and spread a bit of our teanga, and if you decide to enter the competition - Go neirí leat!
