Five Years On: Gay Byrne’s daughter remembers beloved dad with sweet tribute

Five years after the passing of legendary Irish broadcaster Gay Byrne, his daughter Crona has paid a heartfelt tribute

The former Late Late Show host passed away in November 2019 at the age of 85 after a battle with prostate cancer.

Crona took to social media on Monday to honour her dad, describing him as “one in a million” and remembering him as a steady source of guidance and support. 

She shared: “Where have the last 5 years gone? You were one in a million, and we were so proud to call you Dad. 

“You are always missed as you were the go-to dad who always gave great advice and you were always there for me. We love you loads and think about you every day.”

Alongside her tribute, Crona posted a sweet photograph of her and her father.

The Late Late Show itself also commemorated Byrne’s legacy, posting a black-and-white photo of the beloved host during one of his iconic Friday night broadcasts. 

The caption read: “Remembering Gay Byrne on the fifth anniversary of his death.”

Gay’s other daughter, Suzy, also shared that she often finds herself visiting her father’s grave in Sutton, where she chats to him and reflects on his legacy. 

“I talk to him at the grave and get upset sometimes, thinking, ‘I hope I’m doing things right,’” Suzy said in an earlier tribute. 

“I’d love to believe that he can see the kids, that we are all doing okay, and that Mum too is still going well more than four years after he left us.”
