The TOWIE star was dating Stella Turian for a year but their relationship has now come to an end.
Argent had come under fire over the pair's age gap but was committed to their long-distance relationship.
Just last month, James Argent even told MailOnline that he sees himself getting married.
However, the relationship was not meant to be, according to sources.
It is understood that the pair struggled with their long-distance relationship and decided it was time to end things.
Stella was based in Italy, and James in England, and the distance proved too much for them to deal with.
According to MailOnline, James is "heartbroken" over the break-up but there is no bad blood between them.
"Throughout the summer it became increasingly difficult for them to meet up due to their work commitments."
As heartbroken as he is, James wants to remain friends with Stella.
"There are no hard feelings between them, they still follow each other on Instagram, and James is even invited to come out to ski with Stella and her family early next year.
"They made lasting memories, travelling around the most romantic parts of Italy together and Stella visited London for the first time to see James, but for now they have mutually agreed that their relationship is over."
Argent has previously been involved with fellow reality stars Gemma Collins and Lydia Bright.
