‘Very bizarre to me’ – Nara Smith shuts down ‘tradwife influencer’ claims

Nara Smith is finally addressing those tradwife influencer rumours

The mum has long been accused of glamourising the tradwife lifestyle, but has shut down the claims and stressed that she splits parenting and household chores equally with her husband, Lucky Blue Smith.

She told Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper, "They used me as the poster child for the tradwife movement, which was very bizarre to me.”

Smith stressed that she has not promoted the tradwife lifestyle, and does not prioritise being a homemaker.

“I don’t prioritise being a homemaker. I’m a working mum. I’m out in L.A. I travel a lot," she shared.

She believes the only link between her content and the tradwife movement is the fact that she loves to cook and bake, which is one of the key types of content she shares with her millions of followers.

“Yeah, I like to cook, sue me. I like to cook. My husband burns everything.”

She added, “I don’t think a tradwife would be cooking in Schiaparelli or a Moschino straight off the runway."

Her comments have attracted a mixed response, with many people saying she is "playing a part" on Instagram, while others agreed she is guilty of glamourising and promoting the 'tradwife' lifestyle.

"She cosplays a tradwife on the internet, which is what I believe most of the “tradwife” content creators do. They are all playing pretend to sell their tradwife brand, but the whole reality of them making money on the internet shows that they aren’t actually trad wives," one said.

"I see her work as performance art. I didn’t take her creativity for a model of “trad wife”. She uses fashion, culture, food, all of which to convey an art form, a performance. I’m not sure what her politics are, but she’s an artist with incredible work," one fan said.

"If she wants to be viewed & perceived differently, maybe she needs to post different videos where she’s looking & speaking like this. She’s in control of the content she posts. She created this persona. She can change it," said another.

One added, "She capitalized on presenting a trad wife narrative; meanwhile, she actually earns her own income, intentionally misleading. She actually began cooking to clear up her eczema, but knew it was profitable to say “my husband was craving this” intros and sell susceptible young women on becoming subservient."
