Brooker himself cast doubt on the show’s future two years ago due to how dark the world was while in the depths of Covid, telling the U.K.’s Radio Times magazine:
“At the moment, I don’t know what stomach there would be for stories about societies falling apart, so I’m not working away on one of those. I’m sort of keen to revisit my comic skill set, so I’ve been writing scripts aimed at making myself laugh.”
But now, it appears that a sixth season is in the works at Netflix, as reported by Variety.
And according to sources close to the production, the next instalment of the tech-focused series will be a little different than what we've seen before.
New episodes will be “even more cinematic in scope” than previous ones - meaning each one will be treated like its own individual film and we can expect even better production quality, as well as longer episodes.
However, plot details are being kept under wraps, and likely won't be released for while - so for now, one can only speculate.
Given the past three years, some have guessed it could delve into pandemic-related storylines with themes of isolation and paranoia.
Since the show is in pre-production right now, we won't be expecting a release date until 2023 at the latest.
