Alicia Silverstone cast in Netflix reboot of The Baby-Sitters Club

Another day, another reboot.

Another year of unoriginal scripts being written and done-before-stories being told. But hey, listen, who among us doesn't love a bit of nostalgia, right? Anyway, earlier this year, The Baby-Sitters Club reboot was announced and people were, of course, very excited. The original book series, first published back in 1986, followed the trials and tribulations of a group of friends in Stoneybrook Connecticut who had recently set up a baby-sitting service. Now, the upcoming Netflix series - which is going to be aimed at kids, teens and adults - is said to be planning to explore themes around divorce, racism and belonging. And Alicia Silverstone has just been cast in it, so you know it's going to be good. The Clueless star will be joined by Mark Feuerstein for the upcoming 10 episode series. And while the cast of the actual Club has yet to be announced, we do know that Silverstone will be playing Elizabeth Thomas-Brewer, the mother of Kristy Thomas, and Feuerstein will play her love interest, Watson Brewer. Netflix have yet to announce when exactly the series will be available to stream, but given the new production details that have just been confirmed, at this stage we're probably looking at a 2020 release. "The themes of The Baby-Sitters Club ​still resonate 30 years after the original book series was released, and there has never been a more opportune time to tell an aspirational story about empowering young female entrepreneurs," said Melissa Cobb, VP kids and family at Netflix. "Together with Ann M. Martin and the team at Walden Media, our ambition is to contemporize the storylines and adventures of this iconic group of girlfriends to reflect modern-day issues."
