A Britney Spears musical is officially on the way

A Britney Spears musical is officially on the way - and it sounds absolutely amazing.

It was announced on Tuesday that Once Upon A One More Time - a stage show based around Spears' music - will be making its pre-Broadway debut later this year. According to The New York Times the musical will show a feminist take on some of the most iconic fairytales, including Cinderella and Snow White.  It will follow a group of princesses who start a royal book club, and have their ideas of happily ever after challenged by a "rogue fairy godmother". The book writer Jon Hartmere said:

“Cinderella is having an existential crisis, and she has a posse of famous princesses, and her stepmother is the main antagonist, and there’s also Prince Charming and a dwarf we’ve never met — the eighth dwarf — and a narrator who is unhappy his system is being dismantled before his eyes. “These women have been in this hermetically sealed world, and then they start to get deeper into modern ideas — second and third-wave feminism — and also explore how stories are passed down to us, and where we get our norms from. But it’s also superfun and funny.”

Hartmere said that the show currently includes 23 of Spears' catalog of songs, including some of most of her big songs - as well as "a couple of deep album cuts." The singer said that the project was a "dream come true", adding:

"I’m so excited to have a musical with my songs — especially one that takes place in such a magical world filled with characters that I grew up on, who I love and adore. "This is a dream come true for me!"

Performances will begin on October 29, before officially opening on November 13. It will run until December 1.
