The actress who plays Nancy Corrigan on the BBC drama series has decided to step away from the show after four years.
She explained that she was leaving the show because she wanted to step out of her comfort zone.
"Sometimes, you've got to step out of your comfort zone to grow. I've learnt so much, but I'm at the start of my career and I need to take a leap of faith."
Series creator Heidi Thomas has also opened up about the show's future, with the writer admitting they may take a break.
She told Radio Times that they may go on hiatus at some stage in the future.
"I don't believe Call the Midwife will ever end, but I do think we might take a break at some point," she said.
She continued: "I'm not in a position to talk about things, really. There is sort of a rolling, ongoing conversation that we always have at this point every year, which is: is there an end point? What are we working towards?"
Thomas continued: "Increasingly, we do see opportunities to expand our storytelling world. So if we do take a break, it will be with a view to looking at other aspects of Call the Midwife."
Call the Midwife has been on air since January 2012, with millions tuning into the series every Sunday.
The heartfelt drama is now in its fourteenth season, with Jenny Agutter, Stephen McGann, and Helen George starring in the hit series.
Call the Midwife continues on BBC 1 this Sunday at 8 pm.
