Call the Midwife returned last night, and viewers are raving about the episode

The heartwarming BBC drama returned with yet another emotional episode, which saw the staff of Nonnatus House deal with a case of child abuse.

In the heartbreaking episode, child services are called on a family who are neglecting, and possibly abusing, their four young children.

The midwives and Cyril later discover that one of their children died before moving to the area, but details of what happened to him are unclear.

The midwives and sisters take the children into their care, only for the mother and father to storm into Nonnatus House and take their children back.

Things escalate when one of the children falls out of the window of the family's flat and is found on the street by Cyril.

The police, Sister Veronica, and Cyril return to the home and take the parents into custody, and finally take the children out of their care.

Viewers were left devastated following the horrible episode, but many praised the Call the Midwife team for dealing with such a difficult topic in such a sensitive way.

One said, "We sat and cried tonight. This used to happen, and it still does. Beautifully made episode."

Another added, "If this is the first episode of the new series, I’m gonna need a whole lot of tissues whilst watching this."
