We finally have a first look at Margot Robbie in the new Barbie movie

The film will be "totally different" than what we're expecting, apparently.

Warner Bros. has just announced that its highly-anticipated live action Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie is coming next summer. What's more, we've been given a first look at the Australian actress in action - and it's everything we could've hoped for. The joint project between Warner Bros and Mattel is set to be directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Greta Gerwig. Plot details have been kept under wraps so far but Robbie previously hinted that we might be pleasantly surprised by the movie. "We like the things that feel a little left of centre. Something like Barbie where the intellectual property, the name itself… people immediately have an idea of, ‘Oh, Margot is playing Barbie, I know what that is. "But our goal is to be like: ‘Whatever you’re thinking, we’re going to give you something totally different - the thing you didn’t know you wanted.'" Speaking about the challenge of bringing the doll, Robbie told British Vogue that the role comes with "a lot of baggage" and "nostalgic connections", but there are exciting ways to tackle it. "People generally hear 'Barbie' and think, 'I know what that movie is going to be,' and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they're like, 'Oh well, maybe I don't.'" Meanwhile, Barbie isn't the only blast from the past we'll be seeing on the big screen soon. Lena Dunham recently announced she'll be directing a feature film about Polly Pocket. Lily Collins, the star of Emily in Paris will take on the leading role. "Polly Pocket was responsible for countless hours of childhood escapism for me," Lena said. "Polly gave me a tiny world of magic and autonomy to narrate, so it's pretty poetic to be tackling these same ideals now as a director collaborating with the brilliant Lily Collins, Robbie Brenner, Mattel and MGM."
