Add us as a preferred source on Google »Back in 2003, a sweet time before social media and smartphones reigned, Freaky Friday was a staple DVD and source of entertainment in many homes.
The family comedy resonated with mums and daughters alike, as Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan played an overworked mum and misunderstood teen daughter, Tess and Anna Coleman.
The duo ends up inadvertently swapping bodies following a heated argument at a Chinese restaurant with power-yielding fortune cookies that would force them to see from the other's point of view.
It was peak '00s entertainment.
It's hard to believe that it's over 20 years since Curtis and Lohan starred in the iconic flick which is a time capsule of 00s fashion, music, and slang.
After two decades, we've gotten confirmation that we haven't seen the last of Tess and Anna after all and our inner children are rejoicing.
A sequel is already in the works, according to Lohan herself.
What's more, it will feature the original cast.
In a radio interview with SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen, Lohan revealed the wheels were already in motion and confirmed: "It’s happening."
"And we’re both excited. I’m going to speak for Jamie,” the Mean Girls icon added, teasing that her co-star and on-screen mum would also be making a comeback as the matriarch of the Coleman family.
While a release date has yet to be revealed, Lohan gave further confirmation of the sequel by alluding to knowing the date of its release.
“I won’t say that yet…I don’t want to say too much," she told a curious Cohen.
This news comes following their interview with the New York Times when Curtis revealed that she made a call to Disney right after she completed her press tour for Halloween Ends.
During this phone call, she claimed to have repeatedly asked about the possibility of a Freaky Friday sequel happening.
“Something really touched a chord,” Curtis said. “When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made.’"
To this, Lohan echoed her desire to see a remake of the hit '00s film.
“Jamie and I are both open to that, so we’re leaving it in the hands that be," she told the outlet at the time.
"We would only make something that people would absolutely adore.”
