HBO president of programming Casey Bloys told Deadline that the series is currently looking set for a 2022 debut.
"My guess is sometime in 2022," he said, as he explained that it was still too early to get specific about a premiere date. Although, he did note that George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal are starting writing the project.
The Targaryen-based spinoff was one of four remaining possible Game of Thrones spinoffs which had been said to be in the works. However, the others are currently on hold - as Bloys said getting House of the Dragon on-air would be "the number one priority."
“For me for right now, I think getting House of the Dragon on the air will be the number one priority,” he said. “There are no other blinking green lights or anything like that.
