Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon looks set to arrive in 2022.

It's been around eight months since Game of Thrones came to an end, leaving a Westeros-sized hole in our lives. But, thankfully, work soon began on a follow-up series to the HBO hit. And while one of the two prequels for Thrones - an untitled series from Jane Goldman set thousands of years before the events of the A Song of Ice And Fire series - didn't ultimately end up going ahead, the other one did get a straight-to-series order. House of The Dragon will be set 300 years before the events of the aforementioned show, and will tell the story of the Targaryens - long before the Mad King, Daenerys's reign, and her eventual fall from grace. Series one will have 10 episodes and will be co-produced by Game of Thrones author George RR Martin, as well as Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik. And it looks like fans won't have to wait out the Long Night before seeing it hit telly screens. HBO president of programming Casey Bloys told Deadline that the series is currently looking set for a 2022 debut. "My guess is sometime in 2022," he said, as he explained that it was still too early to get specific about a premiere date. Although, he did note that George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal are starting writing the project. The Targaryen-based spinoff was one of four remaining possible Game of Thrones spinoffs which had been said to be in the works. However, the others are currently on hold - as Bloys said getting House of the Dragon on-air would be "the number one priority." “For me for right now, I think getting House of the Dragon on the air will be the number one priority,” he said. “There are no other blinking green lights or anything like that. Sometime down the road who knows, but there are no immediate plans. We are all focusing on House of the Dragon.”
