To All the Boys I Loved Before is actually based on the first book in a trilogy written by Jenny Han.
If, like us, you're eager to see what happens next to Peter and Lara Jean, there's always P.S. I Still Love You and Always and Forever, Lara Jean.
Maybe.
Netflix haven't actually said anything about a second film just yet, but it sounds like it's more just a habit than anything else.
To All The Boys...' director, Susan Johnson, recently told Entertainment Tonight that the streaming service are waiting 28 days before making a decision.
She explained:
"They watch how well the movie does over the period of a month and once that’s over, they can make a decision about a sequel. "I love the fans being vocal about it, the more, the better.”
There is no script written for a possible second movie, but Johnson has plenty of ideas what it could be about.
And it's looking like a bit of bad news for Peter and Lara Jean.
Admitting that they would "borrow from the third book" for a follow-up film, she hinted to ET that the Peter and Lara Jean's happily ever after may not be lasting a long time.
Especially after John Ambrose McClaren - the recipient of the other letter, who showed up at the Covey's door mid-credits - arrives.
She explained:
"The struggle of what that means and not having a contract and trust -- all those issues that they talk about on the field at the very last scene. "Relationships are hard to navigate and they’ll find themselves in one. And they’ll discover what the next person might bring in John Ambrose McClaren. "We’re so invested in Peter and Lara Jean, that seeing them go through struggles is going to be hard but also something everybody can relate to. "The next shiny face comes in and you’re like, Oh shoot, this guy’s really nice too. What do I do?."
The director admitted she felt Josh - Lara Jean's neighbour, serious crush and her sister's ex-boyfriend - "got the short end of the stick" in the first film.
But she said that they were hopeful they would be able to explore Josh's character a bit more, adding:
"There’s room to tell part of his story in the next movie even though he’s not so much in the second book."
Based off the characters popping up in the book, P.S. I Still Love You will see all of our favourite characters back on-screen, including Lara Jean, Margot and Kitty Covey, Peter Kavinsky, Josh Sanderson and Genevieve.
