Back before the 2006 hit film came into our lives, this was almost a reality.
The movie's producer, Wendy Finerman, recently revealed that Streep was almost passed over for the role of the New York City-based editor-in-chief of the fictional fashion magazine, Runway.
Finerman shared on the 'Hollywood Gold' podcast that this was down to one person on the production team's opinion of the actress.
The producer told the podcast's host, Daniela Taplin Lundberg, that the person in question wanted to rule her out because they felt the Mamma Mia star had 'never been funny a day in her life'.
"And Meryl, people thought we were crazy. I mean, I had people call me up and say, ‘Are you out of your mind? She’s never been funny a day in her life,’” Finerman recounted.
How wrong they were.
"But this was clearly a different kind of world for her," alluding to many of Streep's more dramatic film roles.
"I think that that was part of the fun of the unexpected."
However, there was never any doubt that Anne Hathway would play Andrea Sachs, Miranda's junior personal assistant.
This was down to casting seeing Hathaway as a good, all-American girl.
Wouldn't like to be the person who doubted Meryl Streep!
