People are not impressed with this X-Men billboard

Another day, another drama.

The purpose of advertising coming up to a movie debuting is to give the viewers an idea of the film, without giving it away. One poster that has really annoyed people is the new advert for the X-Men:Apocalypse film displayed in Los Angeles in the U.S. The offending sign in question features Jennifer Lawrence's character, Mystique, and Oscar Isaac as the character of Apocalypse. But what has really pissed people off is the message the poster shows - a man strangling a scared woman.

The promotional poster for the new film has angered many fans, left them debating why out of all the scenes in the film, did they choose a scene where a man physically assaults a woman. Actress Rose McGowan has spoken to The Hollywood Reporter about the poster in question, calling it unnecessary and stupid:

"There is no context in the ad, just a woman getting strangled. The fact that no one flagged this is offensive and frankly, stupid. "The geniuses behind this, and I use that term lightly, need to to take a long hard look at the mirror and see how they are contributing to society. "Imagine if it were a black man being strangled by a white man, or a gay male being strangled by a hetero?"

20th Century Fox have yet to comment on the matter, but fans on Twitter have been left less than impressed.
