Peter Dinklage criticises “backwards” Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs remake

"There's a lot of hypocrisy going on."

Peter Dinklage has criticised Disney for plans to remake Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Speaking on Marc Maron's WTF podcast, the Game of Thrones actor said that he had been "taken aback" by the film's hypocrisy. The 52-year-old, who has a common form of dwarfism called achondroplasia, made the comments while discussing the concept of 'wokeness'. "There's a lot of hypocrisy going on, I've got to say," he said. "No offence to anything, but I was a little taken aback by the fact they were very proud to cast a Latino actress as Snow White, but you're still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. "They were so proud of that - and all love and respect to the actress and the people who thought they were doing the right thing - but I'm just like, 'What are you doing?' "Take a step back and look at what you're doing there. It makes no sense to me." He continued: "You’re progressive in one way and you’re still making that f**king backwards story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together, what the f**k are you doing man?" Dinklage went on to say that he has "love and respect" for the lead actress and others who "thought they were doing the right thing’", but added that he cannot understand why the film is being made. "Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soap box?" he asked. "I guess I’m not loud enough!" He also clarified that he doesn't think the story of Snow White should be hidden, but the problematic aspects need to be addressed. "If you tell the story of Snow White with the most f**ked up, progressive spin on it? Let’s do it, all in.” Disney's Snow White live action remake is set to begin production this year. Rachel Zegler will play Snow White, starring alongside Gal Gadot in the role of the evil witch. The film had previously come under fire for casting a Latino actress in the lead role of Snow White - who is traditionally white. Responding to criticism in a now deleted Tweet, Rachel wrote: "Yes I am Snow White no I am not bleaching my skin for the role."
