So begins the grotesque but hilariously heartbreaking film Prevenge, starring (written and directed by) the brilliant Alice Lowe (while she was pregnant herself with daughter Della Moon, incidentally).
Guided by her unborn daughter, Ruth embarks on a homicidal rampage, deftly dispatching anyone who stands in her way.
Be warned; this is not a film for the faint of heart, but if you like your comedy extra dark and you're not afraid of a little bloodshed, it's a gripping ride through the grim reality of society's attitude towards motherhood that will make you laugh as loud as you scream.
Despite its slasher film facade, you can't help but root for the bitter and bloodthirsty murdering star of Prevenge. Ruth is one bat shit crazy, yet bewitching mother and our favourite feminist hero/psycho-mom of all time.
