This is the reason there is never going to be a Friends reunion

Guess that settles it, so.

There's no denying it: Friends was the show that defined a generation. And 15 years after it went off the air, the sitcom is still going strong thanks to constant re-runs, Netflix, and catchy one-liners. So it's no wonder that Friends fans have been calling for a reunion for the last few years. After all, with every other show jumping on the reunion bandwagon, it seemed only right that one of the best shows of the '90s and '00s would come back too. While some of the cast members have spoken about the possibility (to mixed reactions), one of the series' creators has said that a Friends reunion will never happen. Marta Kauffman told Rolling Stone that the "heart of the show" would be gone if they did a reunion, adding:

"One, the show is about a time in your life when your friends are your family. It’s not that time anymore. All we’d be doing is putting those six actors back together, but the heart of the show would be gone. "Two, I don’t know what good it does us. The show is doing just fine, people love it. "[A reunion] could only disappoint. 'The One Where Everyone’s Disappointed.'"

Both very valid points, but we'll admit it: we're still a bit gutted. The Emmy-award winning showrunner also spoke about why she thinks the comedy has become so popular with a new generation of viewers. She said:

"It’s a comfort-food show. These are trying times, and certain people want the comfort food rather than the difficult, mean-spirited kind of show. It’s warm, it’s cozy, [the characters] love each other. What’s not to love about that?"
