Does having a famous connection give you a better shot at Love Island?

Entering the Love Island villa has its ups and downs, you could spend less than 48 hours there before being dumped from the island or make it to the end with a PrettyLittleThing deal. But one thing is for sure, if you're well known, or related to someone well known, your chances are a lot higher. Over the last few seasons, we've seen a few famous names pop up, but the first half of those names aren't as familiar. But what are the chances of you actually doing well on the show if you have a celebrity relative, or famous ex, behind you? The majority of the recent winners and top four finalists have someone in their midst that has some relation to a celebrity, it's starting to become a regular thing. Back in 2018 when Jack and Dani won, you'll remember her dad is none other than Danny Dyer from Eastenders. In 2019, which he didn't win, Tommy Fury's brother is boxer Tyson Fury and he came in second. We also had Curtis Pritchard who came in fourth with Maura Higgins, whose brother AJ had danced his way through Strictly Come Dancing as a pro-dancer. However, when it came to the winner this year, Greg O'Shea might not have had a famous relative, but he had made a name for himself in Ireland on the Rugby 7s team. When it came to the 2020 winter season, Paige and Finn won. While neither were related to famous people, you might remember the dozens of times Lewis Capaldi was brought up, being Paige's famous ex-boyfriend, so much so Lewis had to confirm Someone You Loved wasn't about her. During that season, however, we have the one outlier, Sophie Piper. Sophie was 2020's famous relative as her sister is Rochelle Humes. While the pair looked the absolute spit of each other, it was rarely, if ever, brought up and Sophie was booted out after 22 days in the villa. Then we get to last year's series, where we saw Lucinda Stafford not having a relative, but like Paige, used to date someone famous. Lucinda used to go out with Irish footballer Aaron Connolly, and she ended up getting back with him after she was dumped from the villa on day 28. Heading into the villa this year is Gemma Owen, whose dad is football legend, Michael Owen. Going by the luck of previous contestants in her position (having a celeb backing you), the odds are more so in her favour. We've got only two that didn't make it to the finals, and even then, they still made it to at least halfway through the show. Of course, when it comes to Gemma's luck in the villa this year, we won't really know until we see the dynamic this year, but if it's anything like the past few years, you can bet to see her in this year's final.
