Spice Girls fans look away now, you won’t be happy with this

Long live Girl Power. It's hard to believe that the Spice Girls' first ever single turns twenty this year. What's even more surprising is that the band were only a five piece, after that point, for two short years. While they got together in 1994, they didn't explode onto the music scene until 1996. Then in 1998, two years after Wannabe was released, the girl band we all knew and loved changed forever. Geri Halliwell, a key member of the group, announced that she would be leaving the group for good. Spice Girls fan's hearts broke all across the world when she made that decision and it ultimately led to the rest of the group calling it a day two years later. We were always aware that there were issues in the band between some of the girls. It's only natural when you have five outgoing girls, catapulted into fame, that some of their personalities will clash. We knew that Mel B and Geri sometimes had differences because they were the loudest of the group and quite alike. But it's this latest revelation that's taken us Spice Girls fans by surprise. It turns out that Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell didn't speak for a whole year after she left the band. Speaking to Grazia Magazine, Emma said:

"I was so close to Geri, she was like my older sister. I didn’t think anything other than, 'Oh, I’m going to miss my friend who looks after me!’ It took me a while to forgive her. We probably didn't speak for about a year."

She also revealed that it was herself and Geri who pushed for Wannabe to be their debut single:

"Geri mentioned the other day that, right at the beginning, Virgin were saying they weren't sure if Wannabe should be the first single. And Geri and me were like, 'it absolutely will.'"

They're all back to normal these day and it's the two girls who are most interested in a reunion to mark their 20th anniversary. At this point it's been put on hold but we're hoping it will still happen.
