Other sci-fi franchises have managed a parallel TV/film existence, most notably Star Trek, but thus far the only television versions of the Jedi story have come in the shape of animated series' Star Wars Rebels and Clone Wars. Now Channing Dungey, ABC Entertainment president, has admitted that talks are already underway for a live-action show.
"As a fan, I would absolutely love to it," explained Dungey to Deadline during a panel discussion for the Television Critics Association. "We have already had conversations, and we will continue to have conversations with Lucasfilm...It would be wonderful to extend the franchise."
She went on to explain: "I think that we've moved into a landscape where there is a real appetite for serialised dramas...in this binging culture, there's something about serialised dramas that really compels people."
