He said: "The pain is always there... at times where you're in the most unlikely place, you're at a party with friends, and suddenly this overwhelming sense comes into your head and it's like the subconscious has pushed itself into the foreconscious."
He explained that performing with The Boomtown Rats provides an escape for him, but that it can't erase the loss he feels.
He said:
"I got so many beautiful letters and cards, mass cards and things like that.
"I read them all and I replied to as many as I could actually reply to.
"It doesn't put anything in perspective, but it's like I've said about other situations - I've been on here and I've talked about it - stuff happens.
"Everybody here, everybody watching - they know stuff happens. What do you do? You get on with it. The getting on with it gets harder, but you get on with it."
