No, this is not yet another simple declaration of a child star's birth date and the realisation that they have, in fact, aged, meaning that you are, in fact, old. "You won't BELIEVE what they look like NOW" takes on a whole new meaning in this new horror/thriller offering from M. Night Shyamalan, the man who terrified us with The Sixth Sense and underwhelmed us with The Happening. The aptly named 'Old' tells the story of a regular old family who take a trip to the beach one day, only to find that for some indescribable reason, the beach is making them old. Like, really old. A little girl suddenly becomes pregnant, a woman has an epileptic fit, a boy finds his swimming trunks are too tight before transforming into Alex Wolff. "There's something wrong with this beach," someone declares, while the six year old gives birth to a child and a man's skin appears to fall right off his face. Based on the graphic novel Sandcastle by Pierre Oscar Levy and Frederik Peeters, the movie appears to combine the very primal human fear of ageing with a kind of body horror that generally shifts movies like this straight into cult status. Starring aforementioned Wolf, Gael García Bernal, Vicky Krieps, Ken Leung, and others, the film is a "chilling, mysterious new thriller about a family on a tropical holiday who discover that the secluded beach where they are relaxing for a few hours is somehow causing them to age rapidly... reducing their entire lives into a single day." The first trailer was Old was aired during last night's Super Bowl and met with a mixed reaction, with most people stating they thought the movie looked Not Great, but that they'd probably go and see it anyway.
