There’s going to be a very, very big change to Great British Bake Off this year

They're known for their challenges devoted to bread, biscuits, pudding and cakes.

But The Great British Bake Off is said to be whipping up a new challenge for contestants on this year's series. The popular baking programme is said to be introducing a vegan week - the first in the history of the show. Contestants will be leaving traditional baking ingredients - including butter and eggs - in the pantry for the week, with the task of creating food that is 100 per cent vegan. Comedian and co-host Noel Fielding is said to be the one behind the idea, which producers are keen on as it is the "chance to try something different" and are hoping to catch a different demographic. A source from the Channel 4 show told The Sun: 

“When Noel put forward the idea producers leapt at the chance to try something different — especially as they think it’ll appeal to younger viewers. “While the show has a loyal fanbase, those in charge are keen to snap up a different demographic.”

The new series is set to begin later this year. New dad Noel will be returning to hosting duties alongside Sandi Toksvig, while Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood will be coming back as judges.
