The reason why you’re craving ALL the carbs at the moment could be down to your hormones

We're supposed to be eating healthy.

BUT all we can think about it carbs. All the carbs. Bread, pasta, rice, cake. While we absolutely feasted in the run up to Christmas and ate just about anything in sight - it can be hard to go completely off the bad stuff the minute Christmas dinner is over. However, if you feel like you're stocking up on all things stodgy then you're not the only one. Many people put it down to storing fat like an animal because it's cold out and we need to stay warm - but no; we're not going into hibernation and there's no need to think of it like that. In fact, the actual problem could be our hormones. Our spirits are usually high over the Christmas period, however once that ends the (literal) darkness of winter takes hold and it makes us feel a bit meh. Registered dietitian Jo Hollington told Women's Health: "They’re [your hormones] strongly influenced by sunlight, so when it begins to get dark earlier, your levels of serotonin (the happy one) start to fall. "Eating foods high in carbs gives them a boost," she added. Basically, carbs release insulin into the bloodstream, which helps covert the amino acid tryptophan into serotonin - which makes us feel better.
