It’s a cupboard staple, but do any of us actually know what it’s made from? Paprika is a spice that most of us have stowed away in a kitchen cupboard, and it has grown in popularity over the last few years thanks to it being a common inclusion in many chicken and halloumi recipes on […]
We’re sweetie fiends here at Her.ie but our stomachs just turned watching this video of what actually goes into our favourite sweets.
A new short video by Alina Kneepkens documents the journey of gelatin; a common ingredient in jellies, puddings, shampoos, marshmallows, cakes, ice cream, and yogurts and even some salad dressings.
While most people are familiar with the ingredient, they’re probably not too familiar with its manufacturing process which involves boiling skin, tendons, ligaments, and the bones of cows or pigs with water.
The product, for obvious reasons, isn’t safe for vegetarians and is seen by animal rights activists as an unnecessary ingredient.
The video below starts with the sweet and reverses to the source of the gelatin and as it progresses it becomes more and more apparent that perhaps the sugar rush isn’t actually worth it.
Try stomach it until the end.
