For many of us, the idea of having a tampon left in for eternity is a pretty scary thought.
However, an autopsy technician has now revealed what actually happens if you die unexpectedly and are left with one still inside you.
Gerald Ledford, who has amassed a huge following across social media, shares the secrets from behind the scenes of the world of autopsy.
When it comes to the question over what happens to a tampon if you die, he explained that it's all just a part of his job.
"As an autopsy tech, it's part of my job. I'll remove that if you have one in," Ledford explained.
"You're welcome, I don't want you to like spend eternity with one of those in there."
He also addressed toxic shock syndrome (TSS), which can be caused by leaving a tampon in for too long.
"Don't you get like sick or something if one stays in for too long? We don't want that to happen.
"Not on my watch, I got you. I'll remove everything."
He added: "Everything gets removed, all your pieces will get put in a bag and then the bag will be put in your belly.
"So you get to keep everything, except from that tampon I'll throw that away."
People took to the comments section of the video to share their thoughts on what Ledford had to say.
"As a ghost, I’d be so pissed to spend eternity with a tampon in," one person joked.
"Thank you for protecting these women from ghostie toxic shock syndrome," a second put.
"New fear of dying with a tampon in unlocked," a third wrote.
