The Office for Women’s Health lists all the expected changes to your body, from aching body parts to swollen breasts and extreme fatigue.
However, women have taken to their platforms to share some of the lesser known side effects and some of them are so extreme they are putting people off having children for life.
One person’s post on X went viral after she shared what happened to her eyes during pregnancy.
She said: “Oh cool I’ve reached the stage of pregnancy where there’s so much extra blood in my body that my eyeballs have changed shape and now my contacts don’t fit.”

She posted in the thread: “Sharing this cursed knowledge with everyone because I’m just a giving person xoxo.”
The National Library of Medicine confirmed that there are a number of changes that can happen to the eyes during pregnancy.
The said: “Increase in lens curvature may cause myopic shift. Therefore, new eyeglass and contact lens prescriptions should be avoided during pregnancy, and are best postponed until several months after delivery.”
WebMD added: “Many pregnant women retain fluids. This common side effect can change the thickness and shape of your cornea. That can lead to distorted vision.”
People were horrified by the revelation and shared their own experiences.
One replied: “In my first pregnancy, I went to the optician who told me my optic nerve was being compressed due to the extra blood. Nightmare.”
Another said: “Yup pregnancy and then breastfeeding turned me from long sighted to short sighted! I had no idea this could happen! It’s also permanently made my feet half a size bigger so I’ve had to sell all my old really cool trainers.”
Meanwhile, it’s not just eye problems people experienced, one user shared an unusual story about their finger.
They said: “My body changed so much that a finger I had dislocated in high school re-dislocated and I had to have hand surgery when my twins were 11-months-old.”
The stories left those who have yet to experience pregnancy rethinking their plans.
One person replied: “Everything I learn about pregnancy is against my will.”
While another wrote: “I’m four months with my first and your tweets terrify me.”
