12 things you will only remember if you went to primary school in Ireland

It was a much simpler time.

Does anyone else miss those easy breezy days from school? Call us nostalgic, but sometimes we miss some of the little things about primary school (probably the fact our mammies still did everything for us). Here are some of the things you will only know if you spent your early school days in Ireland. Covering your school books in wallpaper or old wrapping paper Because...well, we're not actually sure why. Probably so we could pass them on to our younger siblings and little cousins. Trading Pokemon/ Yu-Gi-Oh cards/ Stickers Dealing was a serious business and you knew you were the top dog if you had so many cards that you needed a folder just to keep them all in order. Billy roll sandwiches, Cheese Strings, Penguin bars Buttered Digestives, Winders the list goes on and on. Lunch time was a pretty big deal in primary school. No swapping sandwiches now! The stiff competition over who would play Mary in the nativity It might as well have been the X Factor final (back when the X Factor was in fact, a good show). There would be tension for weeks as the teachers deliberated who would be the best fit. Just put us out of our misery already! The horrifying sex talk in 6th class So that... goes... where? There is nothing more awkward than watching those horrendous sex ed DVDs in a classroom full of sniggering pre-pubescents. Queue lots of bright red faces and sly nudges. Being immature with your calculator Admit it, you definitely typed BOOBLESS in more than once. Somehow a dog would always manage to get in And we never knew how. At least twice a year a stray pooch would be spotted on the school grounds on even trotting up the corridor. Maybe the teachers just wanted a little excitement and let them in. We will never know. Coveted computer time Back in the days when Mine Sweep was the height of sophistication we used to love having some time on the precious classroom PC. It didn't happen often but you knew it was a good day when it did. The absolute stress of spelling tests And tables tests. Nothing struck the fear of God into a classroom more than an impromptu pop quiz. Quick quick, what's 8x9? Thank God all phones have calculators now. Coming home to watch The Den It was the best possible way to spend an afternoon sprawled out on the sofa after an exhausting lunchtime playing tag. And of course the ultimate insult...
