A new study has revealed that the dirtiest, most harrowing, sickest place on airplanes is actually the headrest and yeah, not exactly the greatest news when you consider that you can't actually avoid it.
The study, conducted by Marketplace, took over 100 samples from five surfaces on short-haul flights travelling around Canada.
Testing revealed that the seat headrest was the dirtiest spot, carrying hemolytic bacteria, E.coli, and the highest aerobic count monitored.
The second dirtiest place is, surprise surprise, the seat pockets with seat belts following closely behind.
The tray tables were the fourth dirtiest and the bathroom door handles were the fifth.
Microbiologist Keith Warriner told CBC News:
"I was really amazed about how much we actually recovered from them. Some of them more scary than others. "It has been suggested that high levels of filth and bacteria could be due to cabin crew not having enough time to thoroughly clean the plane between flights."Never flying again, so.
