Over 90% of Irish adults agree on one dating dealbreaker, according to research

No surprises here

However, it seems, that the majority of us share the same 'ick' — one that we would consider to be a dealbreaker.

Research commissioned by Oral-B and conducted by Empathy Research has revealed that 91 per cent of Irish adults confessed to finding bad oral hygiene a major turn-off.

At the core of the findings, it was mainly women who were 'icked' out by poor oral care, with 63% admitting they’re always put off by it.

Over 36 per cent of participants said they likely wouldn't consider a second date if their date had poor oral hygiene during their first encounter.

Again, women were more repelled by bad oral hygiene as 42 per cent of women said there would be no chance of a second meeting if this was the case.

That's compared to 30 per cent of men.

Despite it being an unforgivable offence in the dating scene, only a fifth of adults said they’d be willing to start the often-awkward conversation of bad oral care with a friend.

In fact, 23 per cent of Irish adults said they would rather stay silent on the issue when it comes to their friend’s bad breath or appearance.

Meanwhile, for 18 to 24-year-olds it's another story as 32 per cent claim they would always speak up if they needed to address a friend’s poor oral care.

With the passing of World Oral Care Day this week, Oral-B are urging us all take charge of our oral health and banish any potential 'ick” from our lives.
