Add us as a preferred source on Google »Financial strains are becoming increasingly common, so we took to the streets to ask people about the small luxuries they just can't give up, even when times are tough.
The answers were widely varied, but each one highlighted how these little indulgences play a significant role in their daily lives.
For some, certain luxuries are simply non-negotiable. A woman, with a smile on her face, told us: “Highlights, yeah my bleach.”
Maintaining her hair colour was something she wasn’t willing to give up, no matter what.
Another person spoke of a habit many share: “My tobacco, I always find a way to pay for it.”
Despite the health and financial costs, the ritual of smoking remains a priority for them.
Food and daily routines also came up frequently. “It would be an acai bowl because, you can make one at home but, it's better when you buy them,” one woman explained.
“My morning coffee and little treat, I need my sweet treat to start the day,” another said.
For her, these daily rituals are more than just food - they're a source of comfort and consistency.
Then there are the luxuries tied to our social lives and connections. “I suppose my phone, like that’s keeping contact with all my friends, like even orchestrate meeting up with my friends even though we can't afford to do anything that costs money,” one person said.
In this digital age, our phones are more than just a device - they’re a lifeline to the outside world, friends and family.
So whether it’s a favourite treat, a beauty ritual, or a connection to friends, people cling to small luxuries that bring them joy, comfort, or a sense of normalcy.
