And you thought changing your relationship status was a big deal... In the latest sign that Facebook is officially taking over the world, a New York City judge has ruled that you can file for divorce using the social networking site. According to The New York Daily News, one young woman was allowed to file her divorce papers via Facebook when she couldn't find any other way to get in touch with her estranged husband.

Ellanora Baidoo, 26, married Victor Sena Blood-Dzraku in a civil ceremony in 2006.

The relationship deteriorated shortly thereafter and the pair went their separate ways.

When Baidoo finally went to make the split official, she could find no fixed mailing address or place of employment for her spouse, who refused to turn up to receive papers when contacted by phone. After Baidoo finally resorted to hiring a private detective and still failed to find her ex, the judge consented to her efforts to deliver papers through a Facebook message.

The landmark ruling sets precedent for this delivery mechanic to become commonplace across the US.
